Reflection: He that believes shall not make haste

A night ago, as I reflected on my life’s journey and pondered how things had unfolded over the years, I couldn’t help but lift up a voice of worship. There were times I felt stuck, disinterested, lacking the spark that characterizes my life all because of circumstances that surrounded me. I wrestled with the situations I found myself in, the challenges I faced, and I sometimes questioned God in my prayers. Yet, through it all, I remained focused on His direction, not merely by my strength but by His mercies.

What I saw as delays turned out to be God preparing me for something greater. What felt like denial or unanswered prayers was actually His way of shielding me from paths that would have led to harm. What I perceived as loss was God gently saying, “Son, that is not My best for you.”

In the midst of all these, one thing I did and held onto was trust (faith). In what seemed like darkness and gloom, and in my own quiet way, my faith whispered through the storms. And now, looking back, I can’t help but thank God for His mercies that have preserved me.

While reflecting, one scripture kept echoing in my heart:

Isaiah 28:16: “Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; whoever believes will not make haste.”

Faith has a way of calming the heart. When we truly believe God’s Word and trust His timing, we don’t need to rush or panic. The noise around us and the pressures of life often push us to act hastily to prove ourselves or force outcomes, however, Isaiah reminds us that those who believe in God’s sure foundation, which is Christ, can rest in confidence.

To “not make haste” means we do not act out of fear, pressure, or anxiety. Instead, we move with wisdom, patience, and peace, knowing that God is in control. Faith in Christ steadies our steps and gives us the courage to wait on the Lord, so the next time you feel hurried or pressured by people or circumstances, pause and remind yourself: “If I truly believe, I don’t need to rush. God’s foundation is sure.”

If this resonated with you,  I will appreciate your comments below.

Shalom!
